The Fast Streamer working with me attended the ICAgile’s Agile Coach course and enjoyed it, which is nice! I did it with a different provider than he so there was always a risk that something I recommended turned out rubbish, and obvioulsy I hate that feeling. 😅
Him chatting to people on the course + some other things this week did bring up some classing convos around agile and Scrum, from what a ‘standup’ is to the value of measuring velocity & I’ve got to say I am growing more and more resentful of how Scrum is still (increasingly?) seen as equivalent with agile and in turn how its’ focus is so much on churn of features rather than doing the valuable, thought through things. Sometimes it really makes me question the trajectory of my role. Maybe it’s time for a rebrand & beginnig to call myself a Discovery Coach (as per Marty Cagan™️). 😐
We continue to suffer tech/design/ops-debt in the team (not an exehaustive list…). For now this means we’re spending majority of the time providing day to day suport for the caseworking team or squashing bugs while the build is not nearly in a BAU / continual refinement stage. My main issue that while caught in this loop we’re not doing a great job of mitigating creating more of the debt. I tried to mitigate with getting the team to agree a definiton of ready for dev but that only works when it’s used so I need to think of how to surface this more prominently to everyone else. I always find this difficult to do with things that seem very obvious to me.
I went to see a friend in Teddington and went for a walk through an extremely empty / quiet Bushy park. Zero birds, zero people, but massive amounts of various animal poos by the Diana Fountain. ✋ I had a nice pint in Kingston and saw many many dogs at the return walk by Thames. I’m not gonna make it to either the UK Games Expo nor EMF Camp next weekend but I got some second hand games from him:
- Home on Lagrange
- Zeus on the Loose (it’s about me!?)
- The Networks
I’ve only ever played Tokaido before so looking forward to the other ones. \o/
Still no time to play Elden Ring, it will be 2023 before I finish it for the first time won’t it. 💀
I was thinking of rewatching Everything Everywhere All at Once when I spotted a screening of The Lighthouse at almost the same time. I liked the Witch ok but this is by a big margin my more favourite Eggers, and unlikely to be surpassed soon as I have very little motivation to watch The Northman. Exceptional performances from both actors but the main stars were obvs the seagulls. I found a great interview with the person who trained them on Jezebel, well worth a read.
Hard Boiled – a classic for a reason but showing its age, but I’ve never been that into prolonged gunfights among groups of people no matter how elaborate. Really sealed the deal on getting Sleeping Dogs.
The Hunt – ‘I’m sorry, I gendered it. 😔’ W/o getting into the politics of it, I liked how unsentimental it was with almost any of the characters.
All Stars 7 – I’m just so happy to see Raja (and Jinkx) again. 💖
Some of the good YouTube videos I enjoyed:
3x 500m, 1x 1k. Not quite managed every day, mostly cos the West London excursion left me absolutely shattered. The weather’s been so nice that again I’m becoming really resentful that there’s no lido nearby and that my council decided to go with a different company than Camden so I can’t even pop in to Oasis and swim outdoors if I do have the will/time. :[
What is it about ITZY comebacks that makes me initially not vibe with them at all and then a few months later have them stuck on repeat? 😩
Also looping this week:
- SKZ – Charmer
- AleXa – Wonderland / this was a shocker cos I initially found it on StudioCHOOM channel and while trying to figure out where she came from discovered she won the American Eurovision 😂
- (G)I-dle – Latata + My Bag
